How to find Facebook scam groups?

Use Facebook's search function and search for groups with the search terms below. Remember to select the "Groups" category in the search.
Check the group's basic information: the number of members, the activity, the founding time and the administrators. A trustworthy group usually has clear rules and active moderation. Also check the group members' activity and the quality of the discussion.
Ironically, some "scam warning groups" may themselves be run by scammers. Beware of groups where members are asked for personal information, where products or services are marketed aggressively, or where links to suspicious websites are shared.
How to use the scam groups effectively?
- Check the buyer's/seller's background - Before a deal, search the groups for the seller's name, phone number or other identifying details to see whether there are warnings about them.
- Stay up to date on new scam methods - Follow the groups' posts to get advance information about new scam methods and trends.
- Share your experiences - If you have encountered a scam attempt or been scammed, share your experience to warn others of the same fate.
- Ask for advice - If you are hesitant about a deal or a seller, ask the group's members for their views and experiences.
- Check suspicious offers - If you come across an offer that seems "too good to be true", check in the group whether it is a known scam type.
- Learn from mistakes - Read experiences shared by others to learn to recognise the signs of a scam in advance.
Guidelines for sharing your own case
If you want to share your own scam experience or warn others, take these things into account so that your post is of as much use as possible to others:
Describe the scam or scam attempt as accurately and clearly as possible. State the time, the platform used (e.g. Tori, Nettiauto, Facebook), the type of scam and how the scam progressed.
Share the scammer's identifying details such as phone number, account number, email or username, but avoid sharing personal data such as the scammer's full name or address. Follow the group's rules on sharing personal data.
Add screenshots of messages or listings (hiding sensitive information). Evidence makes your warning more credible and helps others recognise similar scam cases.
If possible, tell what signs revealed the scam, how you made sure of it and what you did afterwards. This helps others recognise similar situations.
How to assess a warning group's trustworthiness and stay source-critical
Facebook groups are useful, but incorrect information and sometimes false accusations also circulate in them. Treat the information with consideration.
- A single warning is not proof - Check whether other observations support the same claim before you draw conclusions.
- Be careful about sharing names and images - A false accusation can hit an innocent person whose details a scammer has used.
- Prefer well-managed groups - A trustworthy group has clear rules, active administrators and appropriate discussion.
- Confirm the matter elsewhere too - Do not act based on a group discussion alone; check the information from official sources.
Official channels alongside the groups
The warning groups are peer support, not official activity. In serious cases, also use official channels.
- File a police report - If you have lost money, file a report on the police website.
- Report to the National Cyber Security Centre - Suspicious messages and websites should also be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre.
- Report the content to Facebook - Report a scam listing or profile directly to Facebook, so that it can be removed.
- Contact the bank - If you gave out your payment or bank details, contact your bank immediately.
